The insulin pump

What a day. I had to take off of work today to spend the day with Michael at the doctor's office. We went in for his insulin pump instalation, I guess you can call it that. I figured it would be an in/out process. I was soooooo wrong. We arrived at 8:00 and did not get to leave until 3:00. They instaled the little piece/showed us how to put it in. He is doing ok on it so far, but his sugars are running high. The doctor says when he goes in tom. she will be able to do some adjustments. He has to stay up all night and do a blood monitor on each hour. The doctor will need this info tom. He has to take off two days of work to get this done. I am not needed tom. It will be such a life change for both of us. He needs to know the carb count of every meal in order to program it in the pump and receive the correct amount of insulin injected. I guess I am the official car counter. I have to label his lunches with sticky notes and carry around carb books to look up the food that I cook. I hope it will get easier after time. I guess only time will tell. The good thing is this pump is supposed to help Michale sustain a better and longer life. He is going on 18 years as a diabetic and we needed some kind of change. It worries me that I could lose him way before his time due to this disease. I hope one day there will be a cure found. I guess this all rolls down to our decision on if we will ever have another child. It is a scary thing to decide when your husband has been soo sick with diabetes for so long. I am hoping the pump will solve a lot of these problems and questions.
